Jim, download the PowerCommander sotware from powercommander.com (it's free) (don't bother with accel pump, unless you've done cams and/or headers, you don't need it) and browse through the maps. Look and see what the various maps do, and where they're making changes. TIP: The PCIII manual advises owners to visit their web site and download the latest firmware and latest maps. In my case this was a huge mistake, the In my case this was a huge mistake, the later software I downloaded stated it was for Victory & Harley but it would not accept a new map.
The Dynojet Power Commander plugs inline with your bike's stock fuel injection system. It uses OEM (original equipment manufacturer) style connectors making installation easy and quick. The Power Commander III USB allows a full range of fuel adjustment, as much as +/- 100% over stock. Adjustments can be made either with a Windows based computer or by using the face plate mounted button adjusters. No permanent changes are made to the bike's system. Once the unit is removed the bike reverts to its stock settings.
As soon as you connect the PCIII USB to the computer and launch the software, the map installed in the PCIII USB will be displayed. 9V 'Power Up' adapter Every PCIII USB comes with a 'power up' adapter which allows users to program and interface with the Power Commander on their desktop without being connected to the bike. I noticed that a couple of the PC III maps had 12000 rpm limits while most of the PC III maps all had 11000 rpm limits, but the European maps seemed to have a lot more fuel added with similar mods. I looked at all of the maps on my laptop with the ignition table environment variable turned on but all the tables were zero.

Power Commander Map Database
Revolution Performance supports the Power Commander product line with the worlds largest map database. We work with all of the leading exhaust manufacturers from around the globe to bring you pre-tested settings for your motorcycle. No guesswork on your part. Every map that we offer was tested and developed on one of our multiple in house Dynojet Dynamometers using our patented Tuning Link software. New maps are developed weekly for all popular applications.
What Power Commander III USB Offers
Hassle free USB communication
The Power Commander USB will instantly and automatically connect to the Power Commander Control Center software once it is installed. Simply 'power up' the unit and connect the supplied USB cable to the computer and PCIII USB.

Onboard notes storage
The PCIII USB stores the notes from the map in the onboard memory. This makes it easy to see exactly which map is loaded. The notes, just as the map itself, are automatically retrieved upon connecting to the unit.

Individual cylinder adjustment
All PCIII USB units have a 'cylinder trim' adjustment feature that allows you to 'offset' fuel to one or more cylinders. Additionally, for advanced users, the PCIII USB allows individual cylinder mapping. Now each cylinder can be mapped individually throughout the entire rpm/throttle position range.
Enhanced 'file compare' utility

Enhanced 'file compare' utility
The PCIII USB software allows you to compare two map files without the Power Commander connected. There is a numerical display as well as a brand new graphical display.
Easier to use 'button adjustment' mode
The button adjustment has been made easier by introducing a 'startup delay'. This lets the user have enough time to start the bike and then switch the PCIII USB into 'button adjust' mode. The ranges of the buttons are now displayed in the software. Simply connect the unit to the computer and press one of the buttons. Their ranges are shown on the screen.
'Expansion port' for additional accessories
The 'expansion port' allows easy connection of accessories such as our Ignition Module, Quick shifter, and Multifunction Hub. Cannot open programs on computer.

Power Commander III USB Ignition Module
The Ignition Module is connected to the PCIII USB with it's built in expansion port link and communicates via a CAN interface. As in the case of the Power Commander, the Ignition Module uses OEM style connectors to plug in-line of the stock ignition harness so no cutting or splicing is required.
The Ignition Module uses 'direct coil driver technology' and allows a high degree of timing adjustment. In the Power commander Control Center Software the user is able to advance or retard the ignition curve up to 10 degrees based on throttle position and RPM. It is also possible to alter the timing for each cylinder individually if necessary.
Multi-Function Hub
The Mult-Function Hub allows users to access advanced expansion features. Several optional harnesses are available to permit both input and output to/from the module
Quick Shifter for Power Commander
Normally during 'up shifting' you must roll off of the throttle and pull in the clutch in order to engage the next higher gear. In racing (both drag and road race), split seconds count.
Rolling off the throttle, even slightly, slows your times and can be the difference between winning and losing. The Dynojet Quick Shifter (DQS) allows full throttle, clutch less shifting. This is done by momentarily cutting the fuel and or ignition, which unloads the transmission. During this time, the rider can shift up to the next gear without rolling off the throttle or using the clutch.

want your input.
I have not yet invested in a Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner (SERT), but I
plan to soon (after I rub some pennies together). As far as I can
tell, there are a LOT of readily download-able maps available for
PowerCommanders from the DynoJet web-site while their is little
available for easy download for the SERT.
The maps on the DynoJet web-site offer fuel additions/subtractions
(and timing increases/decreases) based on throttle position and RPM;
the values for fuel changes are given in percentages; the values for
timing changes in degrees.
I have read the SERT instruction manual THOROUGHLY.
Basic Tuning Mode of the SERT offers changes to the fuel map (target
AFR) based on MAP and RPM (not throttle position). Advanced Tuning
Mode offers volumetric efficiency changes based on RPM and throttle
position.
My theory is as follows:
As a jumping off point for those who will tune with the SERT, it seems
like a good way to go would be to use PCIII maps as a guide for some
preliminary tuning adjustments based on your engine configuration. For
example, my engine is a TC88B that had a Stage I (and SEII mufflers)
completed two years ago. I have recently changed to SuperTrapp Mean
Mother Drag Pipes. There are PCIII maps for these pipes; versions for
both with and without the baffles installed. These maps suggest
various fuel additions in the upper midrange of throttle position
(again, the values are given in pecent) at varied RPM.
If I take a PCIII map and, in Advanced Tuning Mode, make some
adjustments to the Volumetric Efficiency tables in amounts that
correspond to the values suggested by the PCIII map, should the ECM
not make a corresponding adjustment in fuel delivery?
For example:
If, at a particular RPM and Throttle Position, a PCIII map suggests a
20% increase in fuel delivery and I make, at the same RPM and Trottle
Position in Advanced Tuning Mode of the SERT, a 20% POSITIVE
adjustment in Volumetric Efficiency (e.g. 75% X 1.20 = 90%), should
the ECM not command a 20% increase in fuel delivery?
If this idea is valid, it should not be too hard to translate a PCIII
map into a usable SERT map. Given the SIGNIFICANT extra features in
the SERT, it would make it an easy way to go. Fine tuning could then
be readily accomplished using Data Mode etc.
Please add your comments and $.02.
Cheers,
